Dysport, made and distributed by the same company as Restylane and Perlane, was the first FDA-approved alternative product to Botox Cosmetic.

Dysport™ was approved by the Food and Drug Administration on April 29, 2009 for two separate indications, the treatment of cervical dystonia to reduce the severity of abnormal head position and neck pain in both toxin-naive and previously treated patients, and the temporary improvement in the appearance of moderate to severe frown lines between the eyebrows (glabellar lines) in adults younger than 65.

These frown lines or wrinkles are caused by the muscles that create facial expressions when these muscles are used often. To correct, reduce or minimize these lines or wrinkles Dysport is injected into these muscles. It then stops these muscles for tightening for up to four months.

Similar to Botox Cosmetic, a Dysport treatment takes less than 30 minutes. It may take from three to seven days for the product to take affect.
