HOUSTON - Dr. Kristi Sumpter announced today that her practice Winds of Change Cosmetic Surgery launched a program in which a portion of the proceeds from all cosmetic breast procedures will be donated to breast cancer research. The ongoing program launches during National Breast Cancer Awareness Month.
"It was my early work with breast cancer patients as a general surgeon that in large part led my professional path to cosmetic surgery," said Sumpter. "In my practice, I have found cosmetic and general surgery to be a perfect pairing. It is a privilege to work with these courageous women throughout the process."
Sumpter's training, dual certification and hospital privileges allow her to work with patients from initial diagnosis to cancer removal surgery (lumpectomy, mastectomy) to reconstructive surgery. This creates an advantageous situation in which the patient does not have to change doctors for her reconstruction.
"These women are an inspiration," said Sumpter. "Each experiences fears and obstacles. Each patient faces a mental and emotional battle as well as the physical. After reconstructive surgery, there is an underlying strength as they return to their lives."
With increasing awareness, and emphasis on research the effort to defeat breast cancer is stronger than ever. "I'm proud to initiate this program in which we will donate a portion of our cosmetic proceeds to breast cancer research. It's a small gesture that reinforces the dual nature of cosmetic and reconstructive surgery."
Sumpter holds board certifications in general surgery from the American Osteopathic Board of Surgery and in cosmetic surgery from the American Academy of Cosmetic Surgery. She is on staff with dual privileges at Methodist Willowbrook Hospital and Cypress Fairbanks Medical Center as well as three ambulatory surgery centers.
Winds of Change Cosmetic Surgery Specialists was founded by Dr. Kristi Sumpter. Dr. Sumpter has been recognized among America's top plastic surgeons by the Consumer Research Council of America and has been recognized by several Houston magazines as a leading physician in her specialty. Offering surgical and non-surgical options, the practice offers responsible, compassionate care from the initial consultation throughout the relationship with each patient.
