Dr. Kristi Sumpter opened Winds of Change Cosmetic Surgery Specialists in Houston at the Jones Road location in January 2003. "A cosmetic surgery practice should have a certain look. Dr. Sumpter has been selected as one of Houston's Top Docs by H Texas magazine in 2005, 2006, 2007 and 2008.

A graduate of the University of Texas, Dr. Kristi Sumpter earned her medical degree from the University of North Texas in Fort Worth. She completed a general surgery residency, which included trauma, critical care, laparoscopy and endoscopy, at Botsford General Hospital in Farmington Hills, Michigan. Dr. Sumpter underwent additional surgical training at the Detroit Medical Center, M.D. Anderson Cancer Center in Houston, Saginaw General Hospital in Michigan and the University Medical Center in Las Vegas in the areas of pediatric surgery, melanoma/sarcoma/endocrine surgery, gynecology/oncology and trauma respectively. She also served as a clinical instructor at Michigan State University.

Upon completion of her training, she joined a general surgery practice in Lufkin, Texas. Here she established a reputation as a skilled surgeon, offering cutting-edge surgical medical care and maintaining an excellent rapport with her patients. She began to search for a surgical specialty that could offer the same gratification as general surgery, but allow her an outlet for her creativity and aesthetic talent.

Not wanting to abandon her General Surgery training, she decided to change the concentration of her medical practice to cosmetic surgery where she could use her general surgery experience and developed skills. She completed a cosmetic surgery fellowship recognized by the American Academy of Cosmetic Surgery at a program based in Lake Mary, Florida. Dr. Sumpter also undertook additional cosmetic surgery training in Beverly Hills, California. After completing her fellowship, Dr. Sumpter returned to Texas.

Her interest in cosmetic surgery was inspired, in part, from her work with breast cancer patients. Working with these patients as a general surgeon made her empathetic to not only the physical, but the emotional impact of the disease. With her combination general surgery and cosmetic surgery training, Dr. Sumpter is uniquely qualified to treat breast cancer patients, being able to perform mastectomy and lumpectomy procedures, and to offer additional care by performing breast reconstruction.

In cosmetic surgery, she has found an outlet in which her aesthetic eye and talent have merged with her highly-developed surgical skill. These aspects of the specialty have provided Dr. Sumpter with job fulfillment.

Dr. Sumpter is a member of the American Academy of Cosmetic Surgery, American College of Osteopathic Surgeons, American Osteopathic Association, Texas Osteopathic Medical Association, Texas Medical Association, Harris County Medical Society, the American Society of Breast Surgeons and the American Medical Association.

Dr. Sumpter is Board Certified by the American Academy of Cosmetic Surgery and also by the American Osteopathic Board of Surgery. She is a Diplomate of the National Board of Osteopathic Medical Examiners. She has full cosmetic surgery and general surgery privileges at Willowbrook Methodist Hospital and Cypress Fairbanks Medical Center and at certified ambulatory surgery centers Cy Fair Surgery Center and Northwest Surgery Center off of Hollister.
